Coving
We've all seen coving. Its everywhere. And despite it being so ubiquitous, it still looks good. Originally born in the grand houses of the early Georgian period, it was intended to hide an ugly and uneven joint between wall and ceiling. It gives a smooth organic look to the decor of any room. Gradually coving spread from the grand houses, and is now found in even the most contemporary of homes. It generally enhances any room. It can be argued that the best coving is the coving you don't notice, but which gives that beautiful smooth continuation between wall and ceiling.

Plastering Liverpool can fit new coving to your property, or renovate your existing coving. We can also remove coving, if it no longer fits with your decor. We can paint and detail coving too, if required. We can also advise on styles and depths of coving, and also on the different materials available.

Plaster Boarding
Plaster boards, or dry boards, are well known and used extensively by professional and DIY plasterers. Used, well, they are a vital tool for the plasterer. Some companies will use them to cut corners, as a time saving tactic, and that's fine, as long as the customer understands and agrees. Its wrong when the customer isn't told, and quality suffers, Plastering Liverpool always put quality first.

Tape and Jointing
This is the process where plaster boards are joined, prior to plaster being applied. The quality of the joints and junctions is vital to the finished result. Tape and jointing can be done by hand, or mechanically and is an extremely skilled job

Rough Casting
Most people know rough casting by its other name - pebble dash. Pebble dash is a relatively cheap and extremely tough form of cement render. It consists of cement and sand, and is applied to exterior walls, and then small pebbles or shells are pushed into the finish. The resulting render can last for fifty years or more, and is seen through the country. Its so common, most people don't even notice it anymore. It really is everywhere.

Wet Dash
Wet dash is another render. Its particularly popular in exposed parts of northern England and Scotland, where its strength and durability mean it can withstand the very worst of the elements. Its a rough mix of sand, cement and gravel and is applied wet from the trowel, and left unfinished. There is great skill in applying wet dash. An amateur will find most of his wet dash ends up on the floor.

Float and Set
A mainstay of the plasterers armoury, float and set is an essential skill. Its also known as wet plastering, and is used as a leveller. Its a two stage process. The first stage is a layer of sand and cement, trowelled on wet to a depth of perhaps 10mm. When this is semi-firm, the second stage, the plaster top coats are applied. Its maximum depth should never be more than 25mm.

Float and set is physically hard work due to the constant mixing required, and is an extremely difficult skill to learn. The measure of a professional plasterer is the quality of his float and set.

Coving

When we moved in, the coving was in a bad state. It had been chopped away and bits were damaged or missing. When Plastering Liverpool had finished, we couldn't tell where the repairs and replacements were. They were amazing. Great work.

General Plaster Repairs

We wanted a lot of plaster repairs. The previous owner had bodged everything. It was real mess. Plastering Liverpool spent almost a week with us. They were clean and left not one spot of mess, and the house is transformed. Really impressed.
